Walk On Through
Text: Psa 23
I must touch on Jesus the savoir, the healer, and the baptizer!
I. Introduction:
1) David
a) A man after God’s heart
b) A song- writer, the Psalmists
c) Never had a problem!
He failed himself, he failed God! But David was a man willing to seek God’s
Forgiveness and was willing to repent turn away from his sins. David was a man of God that was able to walk through the circumstances of life!
I want us to see how he was able to do this!
"You got to Walk on through"
Text: Ps 23
v. 4 " Yea though I walk through the Valley of the shadow of death"
(Or the darkest valley) This Psalm is probably one of the best know of the book of Ps.
Many quote it, you and I have read it many times before but I had Something just speaks to me different than before the time I read it. " I walk through the valley"
"Through" " You got to walk through"
So many times we want to stop, or quit in the middle of the valley!
But David said " I walk through the valley"As I thought on this I wanted to share on what I thought the Lord had for me And maybe you from this verse as we look to David as an example of walking On through the valley!
"I walk through" Not around
As I look at this it show mw that David knew how to walk through the valley!
He understood that there would time of the valley! And he knew there would be no walking around them! "I walk through"
YOU GOT TO WALK THROUGH!
What was it that cause David to write, " I walk through"
What circumstances were in David life? 1 Sam. 16
The Bible tells us in 1 Sam. Of how Saul had been rejected as king of Israel
Because of his disobedience. God had directed Samuel to go to the house of Jesse, because among his sons there would be one who would be the next king!
1 Sam. 16:13
Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went To Ramah. And he lived happy ever after with no problems or trouble! David was the anointed, Spirit-filled, call to be the next king. Was taking to Saul to Become his armor bearer, one who would play his harp for Saul to clam him down, so that Saul would be refreshed and well.
1 Sam. 17 Let look at the first valley that David find himself at the valley of Elah Saul and his army are encamped in the valley of Elah they are in battle with the Philistines.
The battle has come to a stand still both armies are encamped on the mountains Separated by a valley. V. 3
The Bible tells us that the Champion called Goliath would come out of the camp of the Philistines and would teases the armies of Israel vv. 8-10 You see there was no one that wanted to go into the valley! Yet if they were going to win this war they had to walk through the valley!
And this same thing happens day after day! Until David show up! Perhaps, maybe this is why David was able to pen the words we read under the direction of the Holy Spirit "I walk through the valley of the shadow of death" When David heard the words of Goliath he wondered why is no one doing anything about Him, Why is no one willing to go into the valley to battle this giant, who is this ncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God!
And the Bible tells us that David brother got mad at him because he had come there! You see David was seeing that the armies of Israel had forgotten who was their God! And he wanted to do what right, but the oppositions were rising up!
How many know that when you trying to do your best for God there will be opposition That will rise up, and even from your family at times! v. 33-34
But David remembers what God had done for him! Oh come on somebody! Sometimes when your facing a valley you got to remember what God has done for you in the past! v. 35
"I went after it" 2x I went after it, he didn’t sit there and moan and cry, Oh I just lost a sheep to a loin or a Bear, but rather the Word says he went out after it! And struck it down!
And I took the lamb out of it mouth! And when he arose against me, I caught it by the bead and stuck it and killed it! And this uncircumcised Philistine will be like them! Seeing he defy the armies of the living God! David doesn’t see Goliath size!
To David he is no bigger than the loin or the bear his God was able 2x to deliver him from Their paws! And God will also deliver him from the hands of this Philistine!
What was it that causes David to say I going into this valley! "I walk through this valley against all odds, against this Goliath! V. 45-47
Goliath I will walk right through YOU! (We also can walk through our Goliaths types of)
David brought a great victory to the nation of Israel!
But how many when you on the mountaintop and your traveling through life you can’t Always be on the mountaintop! Even through David had brought a great victory for Saul and his armies it ended up bring Trouble for David, because Saul jealous of David victory as the people sang songs of How Saul slay thousands but David ten of thousands!
But yet David didn’t get discouraged or try to take matter into his own hands, for he could of got out of the valley of trouble caused by Saul jealous by taking Saul life the few times When he had the chance, but David would not touch God anointed king even through Saul God call on Saul had been taken!
How many there’s a right and wrong way to handle matter in the Valley! So many people want to complain about what God is not doing, or what the pastor not Doing right, or brother so and so Sister so and so when there’s a valley But that now the way to walk through the valley! Don’t touch God’s anointed! That what cause David to walk on through the valley of life!
All right let go back to Ps 23 and look at what cause David to say I walk through the Valley!We need to get a hold of this because if your not walking through how many your at a Stand still, you’re not advancing in the things of God and how many that where the devil wants you at!
Because when he got you stop in the valley you can’t see on how your going to get back to the mountaintop!
He got you stop and the next thing he does is to build walls around you!
Walls of lack of prayer!
Walls of lack of worship
A wall of lack of fellowship church doesn’t seem as important anymore!
Walls so high that you no longer can see over, so high that you can no longer see the SON!
But our enemy is not dumb he doesn’t build a wall behind you! That why so many cry oh!
I had it so much easier before I became a Christian! It’s a lie from the pit of HELL!
What was it that cause David to write "I walk through"
Ps 23:1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. The Lord is MY Shepherd! David had a personal relationship with his God! My! What shepherds do? Protect, guide, lead to food, safety! I can walk through any valley I face because My Shepherd leads the way!
I trust My shepherd! I know My shepherd wont lead me wrong!
Jesus came to be your shepherd! He came to save you and I!John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
He came to guide us away from the pit of hell! He came to lead us away from the destruction of sin! He came to lead us to the bread of Life!
He came to the water where of if you drink of it you’re never thirsty no more!
Oh come somebody I can walk through the valley of life I got My Shepherd leading the way! You can walk through anything you face Your Shepherd leading the way!
"I shall not want"
David says! I don’t lack anything!
Israel had their supplies provided for in the wilderness! When they didn’t have any water
The Rock poured out water! When they didn’t have any meat the quails came down in their camps!
Elijah needs was met when he ran for his life from Jezebel and found himself in the Wilderness! and as he found himself in the valley he cry out that he wish he would die!
Aren’t you glad God doesn’t always answer our every prayer!
But God send an angel and touch him in his valley in the wilderness and said to him get up and eat and Elijah look around and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water!
The widow oil didn’t run out! Why?
My My! your God is a God is a God of no lack! I shall not want! People who are in the valley so many times are there because they think this or that need has not been provided for! I founded out that when I don’t have enough is because I mess up and
Haven’t been a good steward of what God has provided for me!
I shall not want I shall not lack anything! When we understand that we have everything we ever need in Jesus! It’s not in toys, boys, or piggybanks! But the king of kings!
When we get a hold of that, You too can walk through the valley! v.2
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
"He maketh me"
I think the reason so many people find themselves in the valley to begin with is because
We don’t take time to rest!
We need rest! But you don’t understand Pastor I got to work 14-16 hrs a day six and some time even on Sunday morning you know I got to many bills to pay! Yeah I know
You were in the valley of lack so you bought more stuff that you didn’t have the money for to make you more comfortable, but now you can’t rest cause you can’t pay for your stuff!
He maketh me lie down! You will lie down and get rest when God speak to you or your body give out and you find your self in the valley of sickness! And because you worn out
You don’t have the strength to walk through!
You not only need physical rest! But what David talking about is spiritually rest!
David writes in Psa. 55:6 Oh that I had wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest!
God’s presence gives rest! Ex. 33:14
The Lord replied "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest!
Psa 116: 7 Be at rest once more my soul for the Lord has been good to you!
Matt 11:29 Take my yoke upon you and learn of me(Jesus) for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls!
David learned he could walk through the valley because he was willing to be made to rest
He makest me, But David was willing to be obey the need for rest!
When you learn to rest in the Lord You can walk through your valley!
Not only does this verse show us the need for spiritually rest but spiritually food as well!
(Green pastures) The Word of God gives rest!
Oh I taking about Jesus your rest, peace, Jesus the one heals If your body in pain there is no rest but Jesus came and bore the stripes for your healing your rest!
I am the God that heals thee I send my Word (Jesus) to heal your diseases
You can walk through your valley of sickness and be healed in Jesus name!
All right so far we have seen reason that cause David to say "I walk through the valley"
1.David knew there would be valley to face
2. David knew the Lord was "My Shepherd"
a. He trust Him That he was the one guiding, leading, protecting him!
3.He had no lack and because of that he was satisfied even in the valley
He Knew his God knew his need and there was no need to worry!
In other words he was just know God was enough!
4. He learn to take the rest he need physically and spiritually in the Lord
By dwelling in God’s presences and eating the spiritually food the Word of God
And walking in his healing power! v.3
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
"He restoreth my soul"
We live in a world that is polluted with sin, hatred, violence, murder and where it is no longer popular to say I am a Christian!
And because of the greatness of the wackiness (wick-ness) around us how many know our soul needs some restoration!
David He restoreth my soul, and remember David was a man after God heart!
Psa. 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. The joy of my salvation! How many the devil don’t want you and I to hold on to the joy of Our salvation! Because when you hold on! 2x to that joy!
1 Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
It joy of knowing your saved, heaven bound with the promise of eternal life in the Presence of God’s joy!
I can walk through the valley, because the a mountaintop all heaven where the street of gold on walk on, where there been no more pain, sickness, or diseases and the sun wont shine no more, because the SON of God will shine for ever more
Jer. 30:17 For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after. Not only does He restore our joy of our salvation but He restore health!
He heals the wounds of life! (Stuff that happen in life that wounds the spirit) You can walk through that valley of brokenness! Of wounds! he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. "He leadeth me"
David said God lead me! Because of that I can walk through the valley! Jesus said I must go back, so that my Father can so the Holy Ghost! To do what lead, guide, us!
In what the paths of righteousness! Ps 16:17
You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence With eternal pleasures at your right hand. Jesus is the baptizer of the Holy Spirit if you haven’t been filled with the Holy Ghost today the day for you to be filled! With the leading of the Holy Spirit You can walk through the valley!
Expound on verses 4-6 "I will fear no evil" Why? "You are with me" How in the Holy Ghost!Why? I have confidence in MY GOD! Ps 27: 1-6 I will walk through the valley of life!
Altar Call: There are some here today you find your selves in the valley! And your Goliath’s are teasing you, mocking you! But today is you day to kill the giant! And walk through the valley! Giant of disbelieve you letting God’s Sons & Daughters free (Share the plan of salvation) Jesus the Savoir has paid the price for you!
Giant of Sickness you drying today (Bring healing to the brokenness in life) Un-forgiveness has to go!
Jesus the healer has taken the stripes for your healing
I am the God that heals thee I sent my Word (Jesus) to heal your diseases!
Giant of discouragements you coming down and Joy is coming Giant of you
Don’t need to name them we all have one, we all have a valley we find Ourselves in a valley one time or another!
But Our shepherd is here today, we don’t need to wait for him to come back! Why? The Holy Spirit is here right now!
Let sing a song of Worship to our Lord and expect the power of God to take you by the Hand to lead you out of the valley!
